The essential nature of living creatures is to tear each other down. One cannot live without taking another's life. In fact, it's the core of our very being. We of the Amon Clan see our mission as the pursuit and mastery of this vocation.

Jo Amon to Kiryu, Yakuza 3 Remastered

The Amon Clan (亜門一族, Amon Ichizoku) is a mysterious clan of notorious assassins residing in Japan. They are the superbossWP characters of the Yakuza series, typically available only after the completion of all substories within every game they're featured in.

Profile[]

Not much is known about the Amon Clan except that they have a long history of tradition and success in their job, producing generations of extremely deadly and proficient assassins. According to Noa Amon, their reputation and legendary skills have earned them connections with politicians, the Mafia and even in every kind of industry, being influential enough to stage an idol concert in brief time.

The Amon Clan seems to follow a standard uniform consisting of all black clothing, with a car coat, dress shirt, pants, and shoes, as well as aviator sunglasses. Even their faces resemble each other, though of the male members, only Jo Amon is confirmed to be directly related to So Amon, the first leader of the Clan, being his son. Other familial ties include Shin and Juzo Amon, who are twin brothers, and Kazuya, Jiro, and Sango Amon, three brothers trained under Jo. Noa, the only known female of the Clan, is So's eldest daughter and deviates from the standard attire, instead wearing sleeves, a vest, a choker, and a dress.

The Clan is, at large, extremely arrogant with all their line dedicating themselves to be the strongest combatants in the world, fighting purely for pride and revenge. Because Kazuma Kiryu (and his friends, by extension) are the only ones not only to survive against the Amon Clan, but also defeat them in all their encounters, the Clan has made it their goal to exterminate him in order to reprieve the humiliation caused by the Amon's constant defeat at Kiryu's hands.

Jo has stated that all Amon clan members train themselves to near death in order to fully hone their skills. This is further proven by Shin and Juzo, the latter of whom once launched the former high into the air, only for Shin to get up just fine and reveal that all Amon clansmen could get hit by a speeding dump truck without being injured. Female clansmen are also similarly trained, though Noa only exhibits this in dance battles and idol concerts against Haruka Sawamura.

The Clan's secret to success is being able to employ several of the world's deadliest fighting styles and techniques, including a mastery of all sorts of weapons, and they have successfully mimicked even entire characteristics of other fighters, including Kiryu himself, Goro Majima, Kazuto Arase, Lau Ka Long, Hiroshi Hayashi, Ryuji Goda, Yoshitaka Mine, and Shun Akiyama. Some members are strong enough to effortlessly wield sledgehammers and cannons, and some are even capable of evoking fire and lightning, as well as controlling various objects such as umbrellas, robots, and helicopters telekinetically to attack their opponents. Despite this, and as proven by Kiryu and his friends, they are not invincible, and they are still human, as Rasetsu Amon, one of the Clan's ancestors, died during the war, and even if he did survive, he would have no business living in the present day other than being revived as a zombie.

As they are prideful in their profession, the Clan upholds some sense of honor; when Jo gathered his three apprentices to fight Kiryu (and later his friends), they did not all fight him at the same time, instead only fighting in one-on-one battles. They also have in place an ironclad rule which states that men are not to engage in battle with women (and vice versa); because of this rule, Noa could not target Kiryu and instead opted to "battle" Haruka. So far, Shin is the first and only person in the clan to directly disobey these rules, as seen when he fights against Ichiban Kasuga and his party without hesitation, though at this time Shin was expelled from the clan after being defeated by Takayuki Yagami. Ironically however, all of this would be broken in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth as Jo, Kazuya, Jiro and Sango fight Kiryu and his party in a 4v4 and never hesitate to hit female party members.

Main Series Members[]

Jo Amon[]

Main article: Jo Amon

The second leader and most powerful member of the group. Jo Amon is a master martial artist and an expert copycat, repeatedly utilizing styles from other combatants including his own clansmen and even the Komaki Style from Kiryu. He is at times capable of raining down lightning and utilizing flames and can even use Heat Moves.

Introduced in Yakuza, he fights Kiryu from 2005 to 2016, and resurfaces once Kiryu returns to Yokohama in 2023, awakening Dragon's Resurgence within him.

In Yakuza 0, he fought Goro Majima using the Dragon of Dojima and Mad Dog of Shimano styles, occasionally throwing knives if attacked from the front. These styles are kept in Yakuza Kiwami when he fights Kiryu, and he throws grenades instead of knives.

Kazuya Amon[]

Main article: Kazuya Amon

Introduced in Yakuza 2. Eldest of the three Amon brothers. Kazuya first fought Kiryu in the Champion District in 2006 with a pair of axes, similar to Hiroshi Hayashi with his pipes. By Yakuza 4, he gains impressive footwork and swift technique that rivals that of Shun Akiyama, becoming his rival as of 2010. Retains the moveset of Yoshitaka Mine in Yakuza 4.

Jiro Amon[]

Main article: Jiro Amon

Introduced in Yakuza 2. Second of the three Amon brothers. Jiro first fought Kiryu behind New Serena in 2006 with a pair of handguns, similar to Kazuto Arase. In Yakuza Kiwami 2, he wields a sub-machine gun instead. By Yakuza 4, Jiro becomes the strength of the Amon brothers, possessing great physical power and notable endurance that allows him to take beatings and deliver his own. His strength is on par with Taiga Saejima, becoming his rival as of 2010. Retains some moves from Goro Majima and Kamon Kanai in Yakuza 5.

Sango Amon[]

Main article: Sango Amon

Introduced in Yakuza 2. Youngest of the three Amon brothers. Sango is the weapons expert of the group, having used a different one for each fight he participates in. Sango first fought Kiryu in Theater Square in 2006 with a rocket launcher, wielding it like a tonfa but also occasionally firing rockets. In Yakuza Kiwami 2, he can rapid fire it in heat mode. During 2010 he antagonized Masayoshi Tanimura using a sub-machine gun and during 2012 he fought against Tatsuo Shinada, using a Penguin Spear and several Colorful Parasols.

Noa Amon[]

Main article: Noa Amon

Introduced in Yakuza 5. The only known female member of the Amon Clan and the eldest daughter of the first leader, So Amon. She wanted to battle Kiryu but could not do so due to family rules. Not much is known about her fighting style since she instead opted to face Haruka Sawamura in a Dance Battle and a Concert Battle in 2012. Notably, she is the only member to take her defeat positively.

So Amon[]

Main article: So Amon

Introduced in Yakuza 0. So is Jo's father and fights Kiryu in 1988. He uses a cannon that can rapidly fire bombs and even a deadly laser. At half HP, he then switches to Keiji Shibusawa's Beast style and fights alongside a helicopter that drops chairs and tables which So is able to control telekinetically to strike Kiryu, doing a lot of damage with each hit which can pile up rapidly depending on the amount of hits the player gets at a time.

The furniture can also be used by either So or by Kiryu as a weapon. The helicopter also drops bombs and a power up that grants the player invincibility as seen in the arena. Either So or Kiryu can use the power up, so the player needs to be the one to grab it to injure So amidst the harassment of the items dropped by the helicopter. The helicopter drops them regularly so the player must be wary at all times.

Shin Amon[]

Main article: Shin Amon

Introduced in Judgment. He is the first Amon of the new generation of Yakuza (where Kiryu is no longer the main protagonist). He is the younger twin brother of Juzo Amon.

Shin first fights Takayuki Yagami in 2018. He appears to be a skilled martial artist using kickboxing in unarmed combat. He also uses grenades and double whips, creating tracking ranged projectiles. Notably, Shin is the only member that tries to directly influence a part of the game itself; if he lands a grab, he steals Yagami's phone, preventing the player from pausing and only allowing use of the shortcut healing items. In the original PS4 version of Judgment, the effects caused by his attacks also slow the game down significantly.

In Yakuza: Like a Dragon when fighting Ichiban Kasuga's party in 2019, Shin's fighting style changes substantially, instead using Kiryu's styles from that game with the occasional usage of skills from Kasuga's party members and previous bosses. He is the only boss in the game that has an instant kill skill which can affect the whole party at once, named Effigy of Demise, and neither of his instant kill skills need a charge turn, unlike Yosuke Tendo. Shin can even use Kasuga's Essence of Orbital Laser against him. When fought in the True Final Millennium Tower and brought to 50% health (usually after Beast Style but before Dragon of Dojima style), he summons Thought Entities of Kiryu, Majima, and Saejima, who act exactly like their real counterparts (aside from Blade Kill on Saejima and Doppelganger on Majima being absent), and use their Poundmate Summon attacks as soon as they reach their final phase.

Shin makes another brief appearance in Lost Judgment. He was apparently exiled from the Amon Clan for losing to Yagami and wanted to fight him again as revenge in 2021, but was knocked out by Juzo before successfully doing so.

Spin-Off Members[]

Amon Jonoshin[]

Main article: Amon Jonoshin

Introduced in Ryu Ga Gotoku Kenzan!. He first poses as a police investigator tricking Miyamoto Musashi into arresting "wanted criminals". After Musashi takes down the last criminal, Jonoshin reveals who he really is.

He is a skilled swordsman as he is able to use Musashi's dual-wield style against him.

Rasetsu Amon[]

Main article: Rasetsu Amon

Introduced in Yakuza: Dead Souls. A member of the clan who was killed during the war and resurrected in April 2011. He is a distant ancestor to the current clan members, and his appearance scared even Jo Amon. Rasetsu fought Kiryu twice, having killed Kazuya, Jiro, and Sango after the first encounter. He primarily fires lightning bolts and laser beams, and can turn invisible. He has great speed, allowing him to grab Kiryu in a near instant to drain his health.

Amon Genjosai[]

Main article: Amon Genjosai

Introduced in Ryu Ga Gotoku Ishin!. He first fights Sakamoto Ryoma in the last Battle Dungeon mission, before fighting him again at Kiyomizudera temple.

Juzo Amon[]

Main article: Juzo Amon

Introduced in Lost Judgment. He is the older twin brother of Shin Amon.

Juzo fights Takayuki Yagami in 2021. Compared to his brother, Juzo is more focused on boxing and making even more liberal use of energy techniques, as well as the exploding drones Jo last used in Yakuza 6. However, he does not try to steal Yagami's phone like Shin did.

Tetsu Amon[]

Main article: Tetsu Amon

Introduced in Like A Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name.

Tetsu Amon is a golden-plated robot created by Minamida who challenges Kiryu in The Castle's Hell Arena, but is defeated and chastised by Gai Amon for being a failure.

Gai Amon[]

Main article: Gai Amon

Introduced in Like A Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name. He is apparently the Amon Clan's strongest assassin.

In 2019, Gai challenges Kiryu (under the pseudonym of Joryu) after Tetsu is defeated.

Clan Equipment[]

Enchanted Sword that Time Forgot[]

Given to Sakamoto Ryōma by Amon Genjōsai. Can be upgraded to the most powerful sword in the game, the Yumeryusai.

Amon's Sunglasses[]

The trademark of clan members. First becomes available in Yakuza 4. Increases weapon damage when equipped.

Satellite Laser[]

First used by Jo Amon against Kazuma Kiryu in Yakuza 4.

Can be equipped as a weapon in Yakuza: Dead Souls and eventually as Kasuga's most powerful Essence attack in Yakuza: Like a Dragon after completing the Business side-missions.

Locations[]

Mountain Coliseum[]

Site of the Amon battles in Yakuza 3, Yakuza 4, Yakuza 5, and Yakuza 0.

The presence of unreachable items in Yakuza 3 suggests the location was reused from the Tamashiro Family battle.

Kamurocho Subterranea[]

The Amon Clan training grounds in Yakuza: Dead Souls, dating back to at least World War 2.

Kazuya, Jiro, and Sango were killed by Rasetsu Amon in these areas.

Trivia[]

  • Starting from Yakuza 6, all Amon Clan members take less and less damage from heat actions if the same one is performed more than once, eventually gaining an immunity to repeated heat actions.
  • The Amon Clan is mentioned in Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise, which features Jo Amon in a similar capacity as the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series,
  • The first kanji in Kazuya (一也) and Sango (三吾) mean 'one' and 'three' respectively, denoting their age position within the three brothers. Additionally, Jiro's (次朗) name is commonly given to a second child.
