Eric Tomizawa (エリック・トミザワ, Erikku Tomizawa) is a playable character in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. He is a taxi driver and former member of the Yamai Syndicate.

Profile[]

Appearance[]

Tomizawa's face is modeled after his voice actor, Satoru Iguchi.

Attire[]

Tomizawa wears a purplish blue Hawaiian shirt, a pair of gray shorts, and a pair of leather sandals. He also wears a necklace, a bracelet, and a sports watch (strongly resembling a Casio F105W).

Personality[]

When first encountered, Tomizawa appears to be an ordinary thug, having zero qualms with taking advantage of Kasuga for easy cash, but quickly running the moment things go south. This cowardice, in turn, made him easily manipulated by much more seasoned criminals like Dwight Mendez and Yutaka Yamai. While this cowardice defines much of Tomizawa initially, Kasuga's wisdom and kindness inspires him to give up his life of crime, joining him as one of his core allies in Hawaii.

As an ally, Tomizawa often serves as a voice of reason and information broker for the group: not only is he well-versed in the ways Hawaii works both above and under ground, but he is also quite perceptive to people around him. However, his cautious nature makes him much more averse to danger than the other members, which can sometimes make him appear cowardly. Nevertheless, he is capable of mustering great bravery in the face of danger when it is obvious that it is necessary to move forward.

Although normally laid-back, he does lose composure easily when his friends or loved ones are involved. He most notably is haunted by the tragedy around his ex-wife Marie and his failure to make amends with her, and also was distraught at the death of his friend Takada, who committed suicide after being revealed as a Haku and failing to defeat Kasuga's party. He loves hot dogs and only goes to a movie theater to eat the ones they make there.

Background[]

Eric Tomizawa was born in Hawaii to a Japanese man and an American woman.

He became a taxi driver around 2011. During this time, He'd spend his nights on clubs hitting on various women, which rarely worked. One day, he was particularly drunk and hit on a woman who had a boyfriend, who beat him senseless in an alley. A woman named Marie came to take care of him, and they started dating. Six months later, Marie got pregnant with Tomizawa's child.

In October 7th, 2012, Connie Tanaka, the CEO of a real estate company, had a bag of money robbed and Tomizawa was framed for it, despite there being little to no evidence against him. The true culprit was the leader of the mafia group Barracudas, Dwight Mendez. Dwight used fake witnesses and the aid of police officer Roman Reynolds, and Tomizawa spent 5 years in prison, which could have become 15 had he pledged innocence. In prison, he quickly discovered he wasn't alone in this situation. Marie only visited him once to tell she had a miscarriage six months into the pregnancy, likely due to the extreme stress, and they never saw each other again.

Once he was free, he went back home only to find that Marie had moved out. He bought a gun fully intending to kill Dwight in a restaurant he frequented, though when the opportunity came he was too scared to do so. Due to having spent all his money on the gun, he got into debt with the Yamai Syndicate, and had no choice but to join them.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth: 2023[]

Ichiban Kasuga had just arrived in Hawaii, and picked Tomizawa as his driver due to him speaking Japanese. Kasuga gives Tomizawa an envelope with the address to Akane Kishida's house. Tomizawa intentionally goes against the directions and drives into an alley in an attempt to mug him, but Kasuga sees through him and knows he doesn't have the courage to shoot. After a fight, Tomizawa eats the postcard and calls the police to arrest Kasuga, trying to incriminate him by posing as the victim of a robbery at gunpoint. Unfortunately for Tomizawa, Eiji Mitamura, a friend of Kasuga's, saw and recorded everything to show to the police. He flees the scene, leaving the car there.

Eventually, he reports back to his patriarch, Yutaka Yamai, who finds the residence where Kasuga and Eiji are staying and breaks in. He punishes Eric with his crowbar for Eric's inability to deliver Kasuga as promised and gets into a fight with Kasuga. After Kasuga emerges victorious, Yamai and his men withdraw. Shortly after Kasuga meets with Kazuma Kiryu, they pay a visit to Akane's beachhouse property and Yamai's men including Tomizawa are not far behind. When Kiryu and Kasuga try to escape via a pickup truck parked outside the house, Eric holds them at gunpoint. Kasuga and Kiryu's concern for him despite his previous actions cause Eric to hesitate and inadvertently fire in Yamai's direction, though this misses. The three band together to fight Yamai and his men and manage to escape from the beachhouse, from this point on, grateful to Kasuga, Eric joins him and his party.

Once they arrive at the hotel, a pickpocket steals from Kiryu so the three of them lead a chase against him and stop him. Tomizawa informs them that the American government sends such people to Hawaii with false promises.

Once in the suite, they see the Barracuda in a flock and Tomizawa informs Kasuga and Kiryu about the origin and modus operandi of the gang. They then see the pickpocket trying to steal from one of the members so he is discovered and kidnapped. Kazuma and Kiryu try (in vain) to prevent the thief from suffering a fatal fate so Tomizawa reluctantly joins and follows them. Once they reach the back alley they witness the dying thief which causes Tomizawa to be horrified and vomit from shock so he takes a while to get up and flee.

They then find the cop who arrested Kasuga, Roman Reynolds, in a bar and beat him to get information on the barracudas. Roman agrees to take them to the barracuda territory and gets executed for his troubles. Eventually they find Chitose through Honolulu and Kiryu reveals his health condition to both Kasuga and Eric. Eventually they find out Chitose had entered inside of District Five, and after a long battle, Tomizawa and the others rest in a small break room, meeting Chitose inside. Decided to flee with Chitose in tow, they make it to the leader of the barracudas, Dwight Mendez, who is revealed to be behind Eric's misfortunes. After fighting in his penthouse, Eric threatens to kill him which makes Dwight urinate his trousers, Eric instead settles for taking a photo of this humiliation and leaves with the others.

During the series Drink Links with Kasuga: He revealed that used the alias Thomas to find out about Marie, his ex-girlfriend, to show Prof. Kondo, her current fiancé, around Hawaii. However: As it turns out, Prof. Kondo knew of Tomizawa's backstory and he even set up the whole act of him bumping into the thugs. Eric finally met Marie one final time before she leaves Hawaii with Prof. Kondo.
