Akira Yamaoka (山岡 明, Yamaoka Akira) is a Coliseum fighter in Yakuza 2/Yakuza Kiwami 2, Yakuza 4, Yakuza 5 and Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name. He is a mysterious man who resembles Kazuma Kiryu.

Profile[]

Appearance[]

Akira Yamaoka is a man in his forties. His build and height appear to match Kiryu's.

Attire[]

He wears a white suit with a red shirt. He also wears a hat of the same color as his suit, as well as sunglasses. His goatee is also noticeable.

In Yakuza 5, his face is slightly hidden due to his hat, and can only be seen when performing certain Heat Actions.

Personality[]

Being a Coliseum fighter, Yamaoka does not have much of a personality to speak of. However, the words he utters when recruiting him for Clan Creator in Kiwami 2 reveal that he is very confident in his fighting skills, as well as his ambitious side. He tends to use overly delusional vocabulary, as well as constant pauses (represented through ellipses).

Fighting Style[]

Yakuza 2[]

Akira Yamaoka is the last fighter faced by Kiryu in the Underground Coliseum. He only appears in the Maximum Grand Prix, after fulfilling the following conditions:

  • Defeat all previous 50 fighters, including Sotaro Komaki.
  • Unlock all abilities and upgrades, except Brawling God Knowledge and Ultimate Essence. This includes the Heat Gauge upgrades obtained through videos, the YF6 Tournament and the Advanced Course in the massage parlor Love in Heart.

He will always appear in the third and final fight of the tournament.

He uses Kiryu's moveset. He tends to use the Komaki Knockback to retaliate against almost all frontal attacks. Additionally, his guard cannot be broken, and he breaks out of all grabs instantly.

Yakuza Kiwami 2[]

Although his fighting style is described as "Self-Taught Kenpo", it is actually Kiryu's Yakuza 6 moveset. Similarly to Komaki, once his health drops to half, he will activate Extreme Heat Mode, as well as start using the Komaki Tiger Drop often, making him a very dangerous opponent. He can also use Kiryu's Extreme Heat haymaker combo, both out of and in Extreme Heat Mode. However, unlike Komaki, he is not vulnerable to the grabbing bug.

Yamaoka can be found at the end of B-class tournaments such as the Cataclysm Tournament, along with being the final fighter in the Coliseum, like in his original appearance.

Yakuza 4[]

He uses Junji Sugiuchi's moveset.

Yakuza 5[]

He uses a combination of Mine's moveset and Richardson's unarmed moveset. He is also able to use the Komaki Evade and Strike and the Komaki Knockback. His grabs are directed to the collar instead of the body, so Kiryu and Shinada cannot use their grab reversals on him.

Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name[]

He uses Kiryu's moveset from Yakuza 5 ("Dragon of Dojima" style in Yakuza 0/Yakuza Kiwami) in its Yakuza 0 iteration, though his starting animation uses Kiryu's smoking taunt from Yakuza 3. The Iron Fist Counter (Yakuza 0's Komaki Tiger Drop equivalent) is part of his moves making him a dangerous opponent. He also makes use of the Knockback Counter and the Twist Counter (Yakuza 0 equivalent of the Komaki Knockback and Parry respectively), but the Twist Counter only occurs if Yamaoka grabs the player. He also uses the Komaki Evade and Strike.
