Justice is Sweet (さおりさんの生ケーキ裁判, Saori-san no Nama Kēki Saiban, Lit. "Saori-san's Live Cake Trial") is the 37th side case in Judgment. It is a required side case as a part of Chapter 4.

Plot[]

In Genda Law Office, Yagami arrives to see that Saori is very angry that someone has eaten a special cake that she bought, pinning the blame on Hoshino. Mafuyu happened to come by and was dragged into the situation. Hoshino is suspected because he is the only one who knew about the cake.

After Saori left the previous night at 8PM, Hoshino was the last one to leave at 10PM and no one else entered. The office was locked and nothing indicates a forced entry. Genda was the first to enter today, but he is fond of Japanese sweets and would not have eaten Saori's cake. After Genda, Mafuyu arrived, then Saori. With Hoshino's Testimony obtained, Hoshino casts suspicion on Mafuyu, whose stomach growled when she entered the office and may have eaten the cake in the 15 minutes Hoshino left his desk. Mafuyu's Stomach Sounds have been taken as evidence, and Yagami searches the scene for clues.

A cat is seen on a power box outside the window. There is Melted Ice in the fridge and the trash can is empty, with it having been Genda's turn to empty it today. The Empty Trash Can has no evidence, and Yagami then checks the kitchen to find Saori's Milk Carton in the sink, cleaned and compacted.

An impromptu court case begins, and Yagami and Mafuyu act as Hoshino's defense and prosecutor respectively. Mafuyu's counterargument to Hoshino's accusation is the lack of a cake wrapper, proven by the Empty Trash Can. When Yagami brings up the possibility of hiding evidence, Mafuyu shows them the Notice of Power Outage she found while searching. Genda had warned everyone yesterday to not leave anything in the fridge to avoid it spoiling, which Saori forgot due to being in a rush. Had the cake still been in the fridge, it would have spoiled. As no one would eat a spoiled cake, the blame is placed back on Hoshino, who could have eaten it when it was fresh.

Yagami objects to the verdict, and presents Saori's Milk Carton as evidence of another possibility. The three milk cartons having been cleaned out, along with the Notice of Power Outage, means that Genda threw away the fridge's spoiled contents that morning. With all evidence on the table, Yagami states the true culprit: Nobody! Saori, forgetting the blackout, had left her food in the fridge. The cake had spoiled, and Genda had thrown it away. Genda then arrives and confirms the verdict.

Saori apologizes for jumping to conclusions, and Hoshino sentences her to one month of cleaning duty. He also pays Yagami ¥50,000 for being his defense attorney.

Trivia[]

  • Yagami and Hoshino both point their fingers at Mafuyu and shout "Objection!", a reference to the Ace Attorney series.
