Hiroshi Kugihara (釘原 広志, Kugihara Hiroshi) is an antagonist in Yakuza 5. He is an inmate at Abashiri Penitentiary.

Profile

Appearance

Kugihara is pale skinned, with a lean build. His most notable physical trait is the large scar across his left eye, which is clouded, likely rendering him half blind.

Attire

Kugihara wears a standard-issue grey prison jumpsuit with velcro shoes.

Personality

Kugihara is a twisted and sadistic man, relentless in his assault against Saejima, who he physically tortures while they both reside at Abashiri Penitentiary. He has a negative reputation due to his actions, and most of the inmates dislike him.

Involvement

Yakuza 5: 2012

Kugihara is hired by Shigeki Baba with the task of extending Taiga Saejima's sentence, and inciting a riot afterwards, allowing him to escape easily.

Around June 2012, Kugihara is transferred into Abashiri Penitentiary. Kugihara formed a small gang quickly, and would apprehend and beat Saejima once or twice a week, hoping he would fight back. In December 2012, Kugihara frames Baba of stabbing another inmate, causing Saejima to finally fight back.

While according to plan, Kugihara was supposed to incite a riot for Saejima's escape, but Kugihara had developed a strong hatred towards Saejima, and decided to use the hundred new inmate transfers to kill him. On the night of Saejima's escape, Kugihara stabs deputy warden Seiji Kosaka, and heads down to fight Saejima alongside the transferred inmates. With all the inmates defeated by Saejima, Kugihara pulls out a gun, but before he can shoot, he is shot in the chest by Himura.

Fighting Style

Kugihara's fighting style is based on Zui Quan, the Drunken Fist style of Chinese martial arts.

His main combo is two open left hand jabs followed by a right uppercut thrust. His other combo is an open left hand jab followed by a right overhead backhand slap and a left reverse sweep kick. He also has a running left kick. When he dodges to the side, he can follow up his dodge with a spinning backfist strike which stuns, which leads into his main combo.

He can make a clumsy attempt to grab his opponent, and if it connects, he pulls his opponent forward by the head before delivering a spinning uppercut to the jaw.
