Suyeon Jung (정수연, Jeong Suyeon/鄭 秀淵, Jon Suyon), later known as Shoko Kawara (瓦 祥子, Kawara Shōko), is a character featured in Yakuza 2/Yakuza Kiwami 2.
Background[]
Suyeon Jung immigrated to Japan from Korea sometime before 1980. She was the wife of the Jingweon Mafia Boss, and the two had their son, Ryuji Goda,[b] in 1976.
Suyeon and her son were found by Jiro Kawara during the raid on the Jingweon Mafia by the Dojima Family. Kawara tried to convince her to leave the building, but she refused and attempted to jump off the window along with the child. However, Kawara stopped her, reminding her that the child is innocent and not to throw the child's life away. Kawara and Tsutomu Bessho took Suyeon out of Kamurocho and snuck down her to Kansai. Soon after, Suyeon met Jin Goda at a bar and became acquainted with him. Suyeon received protection from Goda, but she grew tired of having to keep her son safe from the Jingweon, and gave him up after Goda begged to adopt him.
Six months after the Jingweon Massacre, Suyeon reunited with and married Kawara and gave birth to Kaoru, Kawara attempted to turn down a law enforcement post in Hong Kong as he believed it would leave his family vulnerable. Nevertheless, Suyeon convinced Kawara to accept the offer for his career, as Suyeon wishes to ease Kawara's worries, as well as the fact that they were only engaged for one year.
However, Suyeon was murdered by a Jingweon assailant from the mainland after Kawara departed to Hong Kong. Her death caused Kawara to seek revenge on the Jingweon Mafia and murdered numerous Jingweon members who arrived to Japan. Before her demise, Suyeon begged Tamiyo Sayama to take Kaoru as her daughter hoping to free Kaoru from her inheiritence to the Jingweon Mafia.
