Jobs (ジョブ, Jobu) is a game mechanic featured in Yakuza: Like a Dragon and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. Jobs allow a party member to change their stats, skills, and/or style of play.

Overview[]

Jobs are vastly different from one another and serve various purposes in combat. Leveling up unlocks skills exclusive to each job and gives stats. At certain Job rank-ups, the character will receive a permanent stat bonus, which will carry over to other jobs. Job skills are exclusive to each job, with the exception of Character Skills, which carry over to other jobs. Each job has two character skills. Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth alters this by allowing you to put any unlocked job skill into a skill inheritance slot, 5 slots for normal skills and 1 slot for a Kiwami skill, and each slot is unlocked by increasing your party member's bonds, with the exception of Ichiban who has all slots already unlocked.

While armor can be used regardless of job, each job has a class of weapons assigned to it (with the exception of Freelancer, Dragon of Dojima, and Sujimancer which do not use weapons), and some job-exclusive accessories.

Starting from Chapter 5 in Yakuza: Like a Dragon and Infinite Wealth, Ichiban Kasuga and his party can change jobs.

Freelancer[]

YLAD - Job Icon - Freelancer

Freelancer (フリーター) is Ichiban Kasuga's starting job, whose name changes based on story progression. It is named "Yakuza" in Chapter 1, "Arakawa Loyalist" in Chapter 2, and "Deadbeat" in Chapter 3. It mainly focuses on dealing blunt type damage, with most of its skills being able to cause stun. Although Ichiban cannot equip weapons with this job, he can use the terrain to his favor, such as picking up weapons from the ground like bikes and bottles.

Its stat bonuses are focused on attack and agility.

Hero[]

YLAD - Job Icon - Hero

Hero (勇者) is Ichiban Kasuga's second exclusive job, unlocked in Chapter 4 through a story event. It's a versatile and well rounded job, being able to deal single target and area damage, heal allies, cure status afflictions and buff allies.

Its stat bonuses are focused on HP and defense, and its signature weapons are bats, which deal blunt damage.

Homeless Guy[]

YLAD - Job Icon - Homeless Guy

Homeless Guy (ホームレス) is Yu Nanba's exclusive job, with which he can cast magical fire attacks. Besides magic, Nanba can also debuff enemies and heal allies and himself, although these heals are single target only.

Its stat bonuses are focused on magic and mental points, and its signature weapons are canes, which deal blunt damage and restore MP based on a percentage of the max MP.

Detective[]

YLAD - Job Icon - Detective

Detective (刑事) is Koichi Adachi's exclusive job. It excels at protecting allies with its defensive stats and with skills that enrage enemies. Detective has also access to skills that increase their effect the higher Adachi's HP is, as well as a some crowd control skills.

Its stat bonuses are focused on HP and defense. Its signature weapons are police batons, which deal blunt damage.

Barmaid (チーママ) is Saeko Mukoda's exclusive job. It functions as both a physical attacker and a debuffer. Saeko also has access to several self buffs, as well as skills that can cause status ailments.

Its stat bonuses are focused on magic and MP. Its signature weapons are purses, which deal blunt damage.

Hitman (ヒットマン) is Joon-gi Han's exclusive job, which can learn skill that deal blunt, blade and gun damage. Hitman also has access to self buffs and skills that can cause status ailments.

Its stat bonuses are focused on agility on dexterity, and its signature weapons are knuckledusters, which deal blunt damage.

Gangster[]

Gangster (マフィア) is Tianyou Zhao's exclusive job. It's a damage focused job with skills that deal blunt and blade damage. Gangster also has access to skill that can cause debuffs and status ailments.

Its stat bonuses are focused on attack and MP. Its signature weapons are Chinese sabers (specifically, a dao), which deal blade damage.

Matriarch[]

YLAD - Job Icon - Matriarch

Matriarch (姉御) is a DLC class, so it's not available by default. It focuses on skills that damage the enemy and can cause status ailments or debuffs, but it also has some support skills.

Unlike other jobs, Matriarch's stat bonuses are evenly spread and do not focus on anything. Its signature weapons are naginatas, which deal blade damage.
