The Five Billionaires (ファイブビリオネア, Faibu Birionea) are a criminal syndicate featured in the Real Estate Royale side story of Yakuza 0.
Overview[]
During the 1980's, the Five Billionaires were a team of real estate moguls and their various lackeys who own and manage a substantial amount of properties in the Tokyo district of Kamurocho. Their holdings are sectioned out on the basis of their talents.
The Five Billionaires exert dictatorial control over their holdings, abusing and mistreating their tenants and employees in order to maximize their profits. They also frequently employ violence when legal methods of pressuring their tenants or competitors prove insufficient. Despite sharing territory with the Tojo Clan, the Five Billionaires either did not compete with the yakuza or paid them off to ensure they could conduct business in Kamurocho unhindered.
Despite the name, the organization is actually controlled by a secretive sixth billionaire: the Finance King, who deals in stock market manipulation, securities fraud and various other investment schemes to supplement his unscrupulous real estate ventures.
Background[]
The Five Billionaires were formed when the Finance King; Yamanoi's former business partner, betrayed him and took over all his properties in Kamurocho during a hostile takeover of their business. The two had initially partnered to start a business that would both make money and help the community they worked in, but the Finance King eventually gave into his greed and drove Yamanoi out of the business to expand and make money at all costs.
In time, the Five Billionaires would form around the Finance King's company, acquiring and managing real estate around Tokyo based on the division of territory that the different "kings" agreed upon. Through this collaboration, the Five Billionaires practically acquired a monopoly on real estate management in Kamurocho by 1988.
Yakuza 0[]
In 1988, while working for the Tachibana Real Estate Agency, Kazuma Kiryu would come into contact with Yamanoi, who'd decided to try and break the Five Billionaires' grip on Kamurocho. At the time Yamanoi and his assistant, Marina Shiraishi, were trying to make inroads into the Leisure King's territory, but had been prevented from doing so by the King's violent attacks on his businesses. Disgusted by the Five Billionaire's business practices, Kiryu agreed to work for Yamanoi and help him defeat his rivals to release Kamurocho from their control.
Eventually, with Kiryu's protection, Yamanoi and Marina managed to usurp more and more of the Leisure King's territory until they'd acquired practically all his holdings. In a desperate bid to stay in power, the Leisure King tried to kill Kiryu, but was defeated. After the Leisure King was beaten, the other four billionaires introduced themselves to Kiryu before expelling a humiliated Leisure King from their ranks. The remaining billionaires claimed that the LK was the weakest among them and cockily challenged Kiryu to try his luck at defeating them, to which Kiryu agreed. Desperate to start again, the Leisure King agreed to join Kiryu's team and aid in fighting the Billionaires.
Gradually, Kiryu defeated the other kings one by one; acquiring all their holdings and defeating them in battle when they attempted to take him out. As they were beaten, the Kings all joined Kiryu's team as employees, in part to start over as honest businessmen and in part to get protection from the Finance King in case he tried to take them out.
Once the last of the Billionaires was vanquished, the Finance King made his move against Kiryu. Seemingly, he bribed Yamanoi into betraying Kiryu and Marina, taking the deeds from all their properties and handing them over to the last King. In truth however, Yamanoi only did this to discover the location of the Finance King's base of operations. Once he did so, he revealed it to Kiryu and Marina, who travelled there to confront him. Facing off with the Finance King, Kiryu defeated him and his lackeys in battle.
Once the Finance King was beaten, Marina revealed her true identity: She was actually an undercover member of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police's financial crimes division the whole time and while Kiryu was fighting the Finance King, she looked through his files and found enough evidence to convict him for investment fraud and blackmail. Marina then took the Finance King into custody and delivered him to the police, finally putting an end to the reign of the Five Billionaires.
