Heihachiro Oshima (大島 平八郎, Ōshima Heihachirō) is a supporting character featured in Yakuza 5. Formerly a thief, he is now an inmate at Abashiri Penitentiary.

Profile[]

Appearance[]

Oshima has a stocky build and very thin, gray hair.

Attire[]

Oshima wears a typical prisoner outfit. In the finale, he is seen with cargo pants, a button-up jacket, a button-up sweater, and a dress shirt.

Background[]

Oshima was originally known as "Businessman Heihachiro", a legendary thief with an alleged 15,000 counts of theft and no arrests. He would masquerade as a businessman and go outside to steal. Throughout Oshima's thieving career, he was chased down for 35 years by Araseki, a police detective. Oshima's identity was not a secret, but what stopped him from getting arrested was the lack of possible charges could be levied against him. As a gentleman thief, the people Oshima stole from were all corrupt or had committed crimes in some way, and busting Oshima on counts of theft would have been disastrous for his accusers.

Eventually, the combined influence of everyone Oshima stole from convinced the police department to get Oshima's employer to fire him. After he got fired at his job and his 60th birthday approached, Oshima was left by his wife for another man, and he voluntarily turned himself in to the police around 2009, leading to him being thrown into Abashiri Penitentiary. In prison, he hoards medical supplies such as painkillers, and gives them out to people, a habit which he retained from his short time as a doctor.

Involvement[]

Yakuza 5: 2012[]

In Abashiri Penitentiary, Oshima is cellmates with Taiga Saejima, Shigeki Baba, and Himura. After being requested painkillers from Saejima, Oshima inquires into his reasoning, and discovers of Saejima's beatings from Hiroshi Kugihara and his crew. At some point, Oshima inquires into Baba's fear of being denied parole, and discovers Baba's past of murder.

Oshima receives request from Baba to talk to Saejima about upcoming parole. Later on, Oshima is greeted by Saejima during recreation time, and Oshima directs him towards Baba.

The next day, Oshima, along with Saejima and Himura, witnesses Baba being accused of stabbing one of Kugihara's crew with a chisel. Believing in Baba's innocence, Oshima steals Kugihara's chisel through information procured by Saejima, and confirms the chisel Baba was holding belongs to Kugihara. During the night, Oshima discovers of Seiji Kosaka's stabbing, and cares for him using his medical knowledge.

Much later, through the help of Kosaka, Oshima and Himura exit the prison and track down Baba at the Japan Dome. With the knowledge of Baba's status as a hitman, Oshima slaps him and rebukes him for living such a life. Subsequently, Oshima returns to Abashiri Penitentiary with Baba and Himura.
