Junichi Sudo (須藤 純一, Sudō Jun'ichi) is a recurring character in the Yakuza series introduced in the original Yakuza. He is the Chief of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division.

Profile[]

Appearance[]

Sudo has side-parted black hair.

Attire[]

Sudo wears glasses, a gray suit over a white shirt, and a gray tie.

Personality[]

Sudo is a by-the-book police officer. He has a strong distrust for the yakuza, with his only exception being Kazuma Kiryu.

Background[]

As an officer in the Tokyo Police's Organized Crime Division, Sudo had great respect for his senior, Makoto Date.

In 2005, Sudo lost all of his respect for Date, after the latter had stepped out of line on a case.

Involvement[]

Yakuza/Yakuza Kiwami: 2005[]

Initially antagonizing Makoto Date and seeing him as a washed-up cop, Sudo eventually performs an investigation of his own into the money-laundering during the missing 10 billion yen case. He deems Date right and together they take action to take down Kyohei Jingu. They arrive at the Millennium Tower rooftop via helicopter, but are forced to retreat due to gunfire from Jingu's men.

Yakuza 2/Yakuza Kiwami 2: 2006[]

Sudo is demoted to Division 4 after going against orders in the 10 billion yen incident. He helps with the investigation of the Jingweon mafia, eventually discovering the relationship between Ryuji Goda and Kaoru Sayama. He pilots a helicopter attempting to evacuate Kiryu and Sayama from a bomb, but due to the lack of time, he is forced to retreat from the area.

Yakuza 3: 2007[]

After the events near the end of the previous year, Sudo reveals to Date that the people involved in the Jingweon incident were promoted, due to the fact that the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Force's popularity had decreased greatly due to its inaction against the Jingweon Mafia and Wataru Kurahashi's involvement with it. This includes himself, who has been re-promoted to Division 1. He is worried that the Tojo Clan will fall into chaos without the leadership of Kiryu, but Date reassures him that Kiryu will definitely have planned for every eventuality.

Yakuza 4: 2010[]

Sudo aids in the cornering of Junji Sugiuchi at the docks but is hesitant to use force to stop him knowing the kind of immunity Sugiuchi possessed. He again flies a helicopter above the Millennium Tower after the final battle with Seishiro Munakata, while Date distributes copies of newspapers all over town telling the truth about Munakata.

Notes[]

  1. The given height of 178 cm (5′ 10″) is based on the character model's scaling factor within Yakuza Kiwami 2's data.[1] For Dragon Engine games, this method is believed to be very accurate (±2 cm). However, this is intended as an estimate, not a substitute for an official statistic.
