Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii (龍が如く8外伝 Pirates in Hawaii, Ryū Ga Gotoku 8 Gaiden: Pirates in Hawaii, lit. "Like a Dragon 8 Side Story: Pirates in Hawaii") is an action-adventure spin-off of the Like a Dragon (formerly Yakuza) series for the PlayStation 4WP, PlayStation 5WP, Xbox OneWP, Xbox Series X/SWP, and Microsoft WindowsWP.
Taking place in the year 2024, the game features an open world focusing on a fictionalized version of Honolulu, HawaiiWP and many different fictional islands around Hawaii including Rich Island and Nele Island, with a large focus on Madlantis.
Plot[]
Chapter 1: Shipwrecked[]

Goro Majima washes ashore on a remote isle in the Pacific without his memories and is rescued by a boy named Noah, a resident of the island. Majima decides to go to Nele Island in hopes of regaining his memories. After taking down some pirates, he sails off on his newly obtained ship with Jason, Masaru, his new crew, and unyielding adventurous spirit.
Chapter 2: Heart of Darkness[]

Majima enters the Pirates' Coliseum hoping to take out the champion, Mortimer. After their first victory, the Goro Pirates are invited to meet the overseers of Madlantis, and Queen Michele offers a secret alliance. Her right-hand woman, Naomi, asks Majima for his help in finding the Lost Treasure of the Esperanza, which supposedly rests somewhere on Nele Island.
Chapter 3: The Old Man and the Sea[]

After learning what he could from Tucker, Majima stumbles upon a piece of the Lost Treasure of the Esperanza while looking for the village of heretics. It belongs to Rodriguez's father, who cannot remember where the treasure is. To find it, Majima forms an alliance with the Japanese former yakuza led by Shigaki and the Haku led by Rodriguez.
Chapter 4: Treasure Island[]
Main article: Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii/Chapter 4
Without Tucker, Majima is forced to face off against Mortimer. Masaru is approached again to betray his crew, but declines. Mortimer loses to Majima, and is then killed by a pirate loyal to Raymond. With the help of the Haku and Tucker, Majima finds the hidden cave. There, he runs into the giant squid responsible for his amnesia and takes his revenge.
Finale: White Whale[]

Majima finds his treasure, and Noah is thrilled with his promise kept. Unfortunately, Jason gets injured and Majima captured. Majima had regained his memory, but keeps quiet about it for Noah. Majima defeats Raymond to demonstrate the world's virtue, and then returns home with only a photo and a necklace. He tells Kasuga about his adventure, but Kasuga doubts him.
Release and Marketing[]
Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii was first announced during RGG Summit 2024 on September 20, which was streamed live on both RGG Studio's and SEGA's official YouTube channels, with an announced release date of February 28, 2025. During the Xbox Partner Preview Event in October 2024, the release date was announced to have been advanced to February 21, 2025.
