Morning Glory Orphanage

Template:LocationMorning Glory Orphanage (アサガオ, Asagao, also known as Sunshine Orphanage in the English versions of Yakuza 3, Yakuza 4 and Yakuza 5) is located on Naha's coast opposite a beach in Okinawa. The institution hosts eight local children plus Haruka Sawamura and is managed by Kazuma Kiryu, though the land belongs to Shigeru Nakahara. Kiryu was himself raised in a similar institution called Sunflower Orphanage during the 1970s and 1980s, so when was asked if he knew anyone to take on the job he volunteered himself.

Yakuza 3

The orphanage made its first appearance in Yakuza 3. During the course of the game, the orphanage became a contested place due to its location, which happened to be adjacent to a proposed resort and military base. Yoshitaka Mine destroyed the orphanage by ramming it with bulldozers, but it was soon rebuilt at the end of the game.

Yakuza 4

Kiryu still runs the orphanage as of 2010. Two escaped convicts, Taiga Saejima and Goh Hamazaki, washed up near the orphanage. Both men received a first-aid care at the orphanage before going their separate ways; Saejima heads for Tokyo while Hamazaki remained in Okinawa until his death.

Yakuza 5

In the fifth game, the orphanage received little screen time. It was first mentioned through a substory, where Kiryu, now going incognito in Fukuoka, decided to transfer some money to the kids over at the orphanage for Christmas. Later on the game, the orphanage was featured in a flashback scene where Mirei Park, a talent agency president whose on a trip to scout for talent, paid a visit to the orphanage and had a talk with Kiryu about Haruka, whom she considered a potential talent for the idol business.

Yakuza 6

The orphanage made another appearance in the sixth game. The kids are now growing up, and so does Haruka. In its first on-screen appearance, Haruka is seen leaving the orphanage without anyone noticing and without leaving any message, causing the kids to feel worried about her. The orphanage made another appearance at the game's epilogue, where Haruka eventually returned to the orphanage, now with Yuta and their son, Haruto.

Trivia

• The change from "Sunshine Orphanage" to "Morning Glory Orphanage" was due to a previous mistranslation by the Yakuza 3 localization team, and was corrected in Yakuza 6 onwards so as not to confuse the players about the connection between Club Sunshine and the orphanage. It appears that the Yakuza 3 team had originally been concerned about the double entendre regarding the English usage of "morning glory".
