Yoshioka Dojo (吉岡道場, Yoshioka Dōjō) is the sixth chapter of Ryu Ga Gotoku Kenzan!.
Plot[]
Back at his home, Kiryu tells Ito about "Miyamoto Musashi"'s challenge to the Yoshioka Dojo. Ito explains the Yoshioka Dojo is a local elite sword-fighting academy run by two brothers: elder brother Seijuro and younger brother Denshichiro, who've been having disagreements over how to conduct their family's business. Since the Yoshioka don't admit new recruits without recommendations from current members, Ito advises Kiryu to seek out Gion Toji, a member of the Yoshioka Clan who frequents Tsuruya and could easily be bribed to recommend him.
Kiryu seeks out Toji at Tsuruya and, while waiting for him, he witnesses Haruka being bullied by two older courtesan apprentices. Before Kiryu intervenes, Yoshino does so instead, protecting Haruka from the older girls. Soon after, Kiryu finds Toji and, after introducing himself, he pays him two ryo to get him into the Yoshioka entrance exam.
The following day, Kiryu takes part in the exam and easily passes by beating the dojo's top apprentice, Ueda Ryohei. Denshichiro and Seijuro witness the fight and are impressed by Kiryu's skill. However, when they learn that Kiryu does not belong to any noble clans, a fight breaks out between the two brothers, as Denshichiro does not want to let a masterless samurai into the dojo. The brothers opt to resolve the dispute by giving Kiryu a harder test to prove himself: He must fight Seijuro himself using real swords. Kiryu fights the dojo's master and, despite proving a worthy opponent, Seijuro is beaten as well. Begrudgingly, Denshichiro agrees to accept Kiryu. Only after the match does Kiryu realize that; while his sword was real, Seijuro had fought him with a blunt sword and likely would have won if he'd chosen to do otherwise.
After the exam, Toji speaks with Kiryu and shocks him by revealing that he knows his true identity, since he'd also been part of General Marume's unit five years prior. Toji promises to not reveal Kiryu's secret to the authorities on one condition: He must represent Yoshioka Dojo in the upcoming duel against "Miyamoto Musashi", since he is afraid that Denshichiro will get killed if he does so. With no other choice, Kiryu agrees.
