The Inferno (炎上, Enjō) is the seventh chapter of Ryu Ga Gotoku Kenzan!.
Plot[]
One month passes and Kiryu has spent most of his time at Yoshioka Dojo, training for his duel with "Miyamoto Musashi". One day, he is approached by Ito, who takes him to a secluded spot where they can speak privately. Once there, Ito draws his sword and attacks Kiryu, accusing him of being Miyamoto Musashi. The two men have a brief duel, which Ito ultimately loses. After Kiryu admits his true identity, Ito explains why he decided to fight him: Ten years prior, Sasaki Kojiro killed Ito's entire family after he refused to join the Tokugawa Bakufu. Ever since then, he's been trying to track him down to get revenge, and he decided to fight Kiryu for the right to kill Sasaki. Ito then reveals that Sasaki will be coming to Gion in two days for a banquet to be celebrated at Tsuruya in honor of Itakura Katsushige, the new Governor of Kyoto. Both men decide to ambush and kill Sasaki at the banquet.
The following day, Kiryu spends time with Haruka, since he'd barely seen her in the preceding month. He then travels to Koetsu's mansion to meet with him and Ito to plan for their attack. At the meeting, Koetsu informs Kiryu that General Marume will also attend the banquet, granting Miyamoto a chance to question him about his betrayal.
The night of the banquet, Kiryu and Ito rent a room at Tsuruya and eavesdrop on the gathering to wait for their targets to arrive. At one point, Governor Itakura takes Haruka away to spend time alone with her and Ito has to stop Kiryu from intervening, since it would blow their cover. Moments later, Sasaki bursts into the banquet and starts killing the attendees. Ito and Kiryu enter and attack Sasaki, gaining the upper hand by confronting him together. However, the fight is interrupted when they realize that the brothel has been set on fire. Concerned for Haruka, Kiryu goes to find her, leaving Ito to fight Sasaki alone.
Kiryu fights several assassins brought by Sasaki and eventually finds Haruka, who is being taken away by Governor Itakura. When a collapsing pillar separates Haruka from the Governor, the man leaves her behind and tries to escape the building, only to then be killed by General Marume, who had been searching for him. Kiryu attacks Marume, but their fight is cut short by the building's imminent collapse. After Marume flees, Kiryu grabs Haruka and escapes with her, but not before she notices the small charm tied around his sword hilt, which Ukiyo had placed there years before.
