The Dragon of Gion (祇園の龍, Gion no Ryū) is the prologue of Ryu Ga Gotoku Kenzan!.
Plot[]
In 1605, Miyamoto Musashi is living in Gion, Kyoto's red-light district, under the alias of "Kiryu Kazumanosuke". He works as a mercenary for the various merchants, moneylenders and brothel-owners of the neighbourhood and he spends his days napping, drinking with his friend Ito Ittosai or flirting with Yoshino; the most popular courtesan in the town's biggest brothel, Tsuruya.
One day, a young girl named Haruka arrives in Gion, covered in bruises and clutching a katana while demanding to speak with Kiryu. Miyamoto is initially uninterested in speaking to the girl, until he sees the katana she has on her and recognizes its crest. While talking in his home, Haruka explains why she sought him out: She claims that "Miyamoto Musashi" murdered her entire family in front of her and now she wants to hire Kiryu to kill her family's murderer. Despite being surprised that someone pretending to be him killed the girl's family, Miyamoto declines taking on her job, using her lack of money as an excuse. Desperate for vengeance, Haruka sells herself to the Landlady of Tsuruya as an apprentice courtesan in exchange for the money to hire Kiryu to avenge her family.
