Yamanoi is a short old man with a hunch. His hair is gray.
Background[]
Yamanoi and the Finance King used to work together in a Tokyo real estate firm they funded together with the mission of both generating profit and improving the communities they operated in. However, he was betrayed when Finance King became more and more greedy. Though he refuses to disclose details, the man he trusts most in the world is Shintaro Kazama, suggesting that the two are very close.

Yakuza 0: 1988[]
Yamanoi meets Kazuma Kiryu and Jun Oda at Cafe Alps to discuss a squatter named Tsuji, who is located at Sugita Building. Afterwards, he heads to Mach Bowl but is met with and harmed by the Leisure King and his subordinate. Yamanoi is saved by Kiryu and escorted to the Sugita Building. There, he tells Kiryu about details regarding the Five Billionaires, and his own relation to Shintaro Kazama. Yamanoi cleans up the office, and introduces his secretary, Marina Shiraishi, to Kiryu.
When Kiryu completes Media King domination, Yamanoi and several documents are missing. It is later revealed that he brings them to Finance King, everyone thinks Yamanoi is bought by Finance King but actually that is his plan to be near Finance King enough to kill him. However, Marina comes in time and convinces him not to kill Finance King and Finance King is arrested finally.
