Yamato Totsuka (戸塚 大和, Totsuka Yamato) is a minor antagonist in Yakuza: Like a Dragon. He is the chief of headquarters of the Seiryu Clan, the chairman of the Ryuto Family, and the former director of Sunlight Castle.

Profile[]

Appearance[]

Totsuka has a medium build, brown eyes, and slicked-back black hair.

Attire[]

Totsuka wears a pinstriped black suit over white shirt and printed red tie, a pair of matching pants, and a pair of black leather shoes.

Personality[]

While Totsuka puts on a friendly, caring facade for the families of the elderly residents of his retirement home, he is in truth a ruthless conman who regularly murders the wealthiest residents in his facility and continues to cash in their pensions post-mortem in order to earn more money. Totsuka rationalizes his crimes by insisting that he is merely "euthanizing" these elderly residents and that he's doing the country a favor by disposing of unproductive members of its aging population.

Background[]

Totsuka had formed a rivalry with his subordinate, Mamoru Takabe, and forced him to cut off two of his fingers, but was surpassed in rank after Takabe was promoted to Seiryu Clan Captain. The Seiryu Clan had bought and renovated a Meiji era bank, transforming it into Sunlight Castle. Control of the facility was handed to Totsuka, who would have his Ryuto Family give up control of Otohime Land to operate Sunlight Castle full-time. Totsuka had set up a scheme to profit off certain elderly people admitted to the facility.

SPOILER WARNING: Plot details for Yakuza: Like a Dragon follow. (Skip)

Totsuka asks Nanoha Mukoda for money at Pocket Café and is then tailed by Ichiban Kasuga's party to Sunlight Castle, a retirement home that he runs where Nanoha's father Tatsuro Mukoda resides. With Shuichi Kanbe's assistance, the party secures jobs at Sunlight Castle for information on their supposedly top-tier "Excellent Area", where Tatsuro is admitted.

Ten days after the conversation with Nanoha, Kasuga's party prevents Tatsuro from receiving a lethal injection, subsequently meeting and confronting Totsuka. Upon defeating him, Kasuga's party learned that the retirement home is a front for extortion scam, as their "Excellent Area" charges exorbitant fees while silently euthanizing elderly civilians, allowing him to extort the patient's retirement fund well after their deaths without their guardian's knowledge.

Totsuka refuses to shut the place down, so Kasuga chooses to inform the Seiryu Clan patriarch Ryuhei Hoshino. Totsuka's business was kept secret from Hoshino all this time, and to prevent him from finding out, springs a trap when Kasuga and co. arrive at the clan's headquarters. They push through the ambush and Hoshino learns of Totsuka's scheme. Totsuka is spared from committing yubitsumeWP, but for his act of secrecy, is ousted by Mamoru Takabe.

Sunlight Castle was shut down following the incident, and the scammed money was reimbursed.

The Seiryu Clan splinters following Hoshino and Takabe's lack of action on two clan members getting murdered by Mabuchi, as well as Mabuchi exposing the Ijin Three counterfeiting operation. Totsuka leads a splinter faction to harass Hamako in order to find Kasuga. Totsuka is defeated when Kasuga arrives and he is told to stay away from Hamako.

Notes[]

  1. The given height of 185 cm (6′ 1″) is based on the character model's scaling factor within Yakuza: Like a Dragon's data.[1] For Dragon Engine games, this method is believed to be very accurate (±2 cm). However, this is intended as an estimate, not a substitute for an official statistic.
