Personality[]

SPOILER WARNING: Plot details for Lost Judgment follow. (Skip)

Although Mamiya took part in driving one of her classmates to suicide, she appears to hold no remorse over it and is only worried about what she personally has to lose, her main concern being what would happen to her if she were exposed as an accomplice to murder. When confronted with her past misdeeds, she is quick to play the victim, blame other people and make excuses, even arguing that on the inside, everyone is a bully in some form. However, it is difficult to see whether she truly believes this, or is merely saying it to provide cover for her previous behaviour.

Although she resents Kuwana for blackmailing her into joining his scheme, she finds his project to insult the legal system somewhat amusing.

Mamiya also has a talent for acting, best demonstrated by how she was able to convince several parties that she was truly groped.

Background[]

Yui Suzuki attended Kurokawa Academy and was in Yu Kitakata's homeroom, taking part in the bullying of Mitsuru Kusumoto that would lead to his suicide attempt in September 2008. When Shinya Kawai was outed as the bully, all who took part placed the blame solely on Kawai and were left unpunished. She would later go on to graduate from Touto University and eventually, she married a man she met during her job - Taichi Mamiya - and they had a son, Sota.[1]

Unbeknownst to everyone involved, Kitakata had secretly recorded their bullying. When the years passed and they were of an age where they could be held accountable, Kitakata contacted the bullies and blackmailed them with the bullying footage for his plan of revenge. He had them kidnap Shinya Kawai in 2016 so he could be killed, and were forced to work with him to abduct at least six other bullies. Their abduction of Kawai was also used as leverage, as his corpse, which was preserved in a freezer, had their fingerprints and he had video footage of the abduction.

Lost Judgment: 2021[]

In October 2021, Mamiya stages a groping with Kitakata, now known as Jin Kuwana, as part of a plan to humiliate the legal justice system and allow Akihiro Ehara to be sentenced for sexual battery rather than for murder. Prior, Mamiya's friends abducted Hiro Mikoshiba and turned him over to Ehara so that he can be tortured to death. Kuwana (disguised as Ehara) then pretends to grope her after they board the train together. When they exit, Ehara swaps places with Kuwana within the security cameras' blind spot. Mamiya signals her co-conspirators to catch the "groper" and record the incident, getting a clear view of Ehara's face. She cooperates with investigators to have him convicted.

Kuwana sends Mamiya to Yoko Sawa while disguised and has her give Sawa a picture of Mikoshiba right before he was murdered as a warning to not get further involved in Takayuki Yagami's investigation. When Saori Shirosaki and Yagami later question her at her apartment, she continues the façade of being a groping victim and successfully fools them.

Yagami visits Mamiya again, this time accompanied by Fumiya Sugiura and with more knowledge about her. Over the intercom, they mention her link to Sawa and Kurokawa Academy, and ask to speak to her for information regarding Sawa's murder, causing Mamiya to inform her accomplices to be on standby.

During their talk, Mamiya is shown the footage of Mitsuru being bullied, causing her to panic and begs for its deletion to no avail. She signals to her accomplices, and they try to defeat Yagami and Sugiura, but fail. The two take Mamiya to Charles for questioning. She informs them of Kuwana's blackmail, being accomplices to murder, Ehara's fake alibi, how Kuwana learned of Toshiro Ehara's suicide, and her lack of knowledge of RK. Kuwana calls Yagami, asking him to meet him in exchange for Mamiya's freedom, which allows her to leave.

Mamiya is called to meet with Kuwana in case his negotiations do not go as planned, and she tries to knock Yagami unconscious, but fails. She is brought back to Charles, but now Saori, Hoshino, and Genda are present for her explaining how the evidence was planted. When she finishes, she is allowed to walk away freely due to a lack of tangible evidence for her participation in crime.

Mamiya's involvement with Kuwana is revealed to Public Security, and Kawai's preserved body is found and investigated in early 2022, but it is unknown how or if Mamiya is affected.

Notes[]

  1. The given birth year of 1991 is an estimate based on Mamiya's age and is not intended as a substitute for an official date.
  2. The given height of 170 cm (5′ 7″) is based on the character model's scaling factor within Lost Judgment's data.[2] For Dragon Engine games, this method is believed to be very accurate (±2 cm). However, this is intended as an estimate, not a substitute for an official statistic.
