Yukio Terada (寺田 行雄, Terada Yukio), born Daejin Kim (김대진, Gim Dae-jin/金 大津, Kimu Dejin), is a supporting character in Yakuza/Yakuza Kiwami and a major antagonist in Yakuza 2/Yakuza Kiwami 2.

Terada has a large build, and is stockier than most of the other major characters in the games.
Attire[]
During his younger days, Terada is seen wearing a standard Jingweon operative outfit: an all-black outfit with a vest. In his later appearances, he is seen wearing either a standard business suit and tie or a trenchcoat over white scarf and a pair of dress pants.
Personality[]
Terada is the leader of the Jingweon Mafia in Japan. He takes the Jingweon creed of "death before dishonor" to heart. After being one of only three survivors of the Jingweon Massacre in 1980, Terada patiently waited 26 long years before finally taking revenge on the Tojo Clan in 2006, waiting until he had an established position in the Japanese yakuza and his fellow survivor had an established position in the Japanese police. Terada himself acknowledges the extremity of such a devotion, describing the Jingweon as having "discarded [their] humanity" for their creed in order to be able to live for the sole purpose of revenge.
As the fifth chairman of the Tojo Clan, Terada appeared to be a terrible leader, as he made decisions that weakened the clan and hurt its image. In the year he was in charge, he surrounded himself with yes-men and pushed senior members aside from the clan in favor of members who produced greater profits despite a lack of seniority. However, seeing as how Terada plotted to destroy the Tojo Clan all along, it is likely that his poor leadership was deliberate and not a result of incompetence.
He proved himself to be an exceptionally competent and cunning manipulator and strategist, as shown by him using a very elaborate setup (involving a fake ambulance) to fake his death in front of Kiryu, as well as using this death to manipulate him and Ryuji into starting a war that would destroy the Tojo.
However, Terada is not entirely irredeemable or without morals. He holds great respect for Shintaro Kazama. He proves this by trying to protect him from Shimano and his family in the original game. Even though he lived for the Jingweon Mafia, he revealed to Kiryu that he was grateful and touched by all that Kazama did for him. He even chose to save Kiryu in the end by defusing the bomb.
Background[]
Born Daejin Kim, Terada is of Korean descent. It is unknown if he was born in Japan or Korea, but by the time he was 16 in 1980, he was stationed with the Japanese branch of the Korean organized crime syndicate the Jingweon Mafia. Due to a feud between the mafia and the Tojo Clan's Dojima Family, the Dojima attacked the Jingweon on Christmas Day, 1980. The attack was led by Sohei Dojima's two lieutenants, Shintaro Kazama and Futoshi Shimano.
While Shimano carried out the attack with glee, Kazama showed mercy to the Jingweon. When he encountered Terada and another young boy (who would later take the name Wataru Kurahashi), Kazama spared them, but warned them that they must leave Kamurocho and never return. In spite of Kazama's mercy, the efforts of the Dojima Family caused 36 members of the group to be killed in the massacre, including the Jingweon Mafia Boss (who Kazama was forced to kill due to a misunderstanding involving a then-12-year-old Kazuma Kiryu).
After the event, Terada obtained his Japanese name and acquired citizenship. With the help of Kazama, who begged Omi Alliance leader Jin Goda to look after Terada, Terada joined the Omi Alliance. By 2005, he had become the Omi's Chief of HQ, and had also became oath brothers with Ryo Takashima, who had been aware of Terada's Jingweon origins.
Involvement[]
Yakuza/Yakuza Kiwami: 2005[]
Terada is Akira Nishikiyama's source of information regarding the disappearance of the Tojo Clan's 10 billion yen. He later frees Haruka Sawamura when she is taken to the Yoshida Batting Center by Goro Majima and tells her of the value of her pendant and asking her to pass the message to Kazuma Kiryu.
He is later seen at a meeting between Futoshi Shimano and Lau Ka Long when they are deciding how to split the 10 billion yen once it is found, as Terada had a hand in causing the civil war by leaking information to Nishikiyama.
Terada appears at the ship on the docks when Kazama is reunited with Kiryu, Haruka recognizing him as the man who rescued her. He acts as an ally to them both and aids them in fighting off the assault of the Shimano Family men. Terada is ultimately the one to shoot Shimano himself when he throws a grenade that fatally wounds Kazama. Unbeknownst to Shimano, he was killed by one of the survivors of the very massacre he was the chief perpetrator of.
Later, Terada attempts to assist Kiryu against Kyohei Jingu, only to be betrayed by members of his own alliance who had secretly aligned with Jingu in order to take down the Tojo Clan. Following Jingu's defeat, Kiryu is appointed the Fourth Chairman of the Tojo Clan, but retires the same day and appoints Terada as the Fifth Chairman of the Tojo Clan. Takashima replaced him as the Omi Chief of HQ.
Yakuza 2/Yakuza Kiwami 2: 2006[]
Majima Saga: Shortly after the events of the first game, in February 2006, in an effort to rebuild the clan after the 10 billion yen incident, Terada announced that he is going to recruit a new captain. He ruled that the one with the most financial contribution to the clan will be the new captain. By this criteria, Akinobu Uematsu is to become captain, but Goro Majima brings in a cart full of money and wins. He however does not want the position and warns Terada to not underestimate the clan. Terada calls off the meeting to decide a new way of electing the captain. This decision proves unpopular and makes him a polarizing figure in the clan due to the disregard of seniority among the members.
After Kei Ibuchi is killed, Terada apologizes for not noticing his ill intent but Majima states he will follow orders regardless of how he feels about them. They meet with Jin Goda to broker peace for the death of an Omi executive to avoid war between the clans and Majima states he and the Majima Family will leave the Tojo Clan as recompense, as it was his subordinate who killed the executive.
Over the course of the next year, the Omi and Tojo were heading towards war because of Terada having left the former, strongly attempting to help broker a peace between the two organizations. While visiting Kiryu to seek out his advice, Terada was shot and killed by members of the Omi Alliance, ending his short tenure as head of the Tojo Clan.
In reality, Terada had actually faked his own death in order to manipulate Kiryu into trying to broker peace with the Omi, correctly predicting that this would incite Ryuji Goda to try and take over the Tojo Clan in response. Along with Takashima, they conspired to wipe out the Tojo Clan, which would allow the Jingweon to take revenge for their massacre 26 years previously. As part of his scheme, he surrounded himself with yes-men and pushed the old guard of the Tojo to the side during his term as Fifth Chairman.
After Kiryu defeated Ryuji atop Kamurocho Hills, Terada revealed himself and his Jingweon/Korean origins to Kiryu, and learned that as a child Kiryu was the one who inadvertently caused the boss's death. Terada then engaged Kiryu with his men, but was defeated. Afterwards, Takashima revealed himself, but betrayed Terada and shot him fatally. With his dying breaths, Terada activated the final bomb that the Jingweon were set to use to light Kamurocho ablaze, and asked Kiryu to trust him. As it later turned out, Terada had secretly removed the bomb's fuse, predicting that Takashima would betray him. As a result of Terada's decision, Kiryu was saved, but Terada and both of the Godas were killed as a result of Takashima's betrayal.
In the game's post-credits scene, Kiryu chose to believe that Terada's decision meant that his feelings towards Shintaro Kazama had been genuine, and he and Haruka both thank him at his grave.
Fighting Style[]
In Yakuza 2/Yakuza Kiwami 2, he wields a submachine gun, keeping his attacks at a distance while his men engage Kiryu in melee.
