Yuya (ユウヤ, Yūya) is a recurring supporting character in the Yakuza series. He is the manager of Stardust.

Profile[]

Appearance[]

Yuya has medium-length auburn hair, with a shaved mustache and goatee. In Yakuza Kiwami 2, his goatee is grown out longer. In Yakuza 6, his hair is black.

Attire[]

Yuya wears a burgundy double breasted suit over a dark blue dress shirt alongside a chain necklace and black oxford dress shoes. He also has a golden wallet chain and a lapel pin brooch with a golden chain attached to his chest pocket. At the beginning of Yakuza 3, he is seen without his jacket and his shirt untucked, with a white bandanna over his head. In the Yakuza 6, he wears a standard business suit with a pair of spectacles and his hair is black.

During his days as the leader of the Black Thunder motorcycle gang, Yuya wore a white trenchcoat embroidered with black, gold, and red kanji, which he wears over his usual clothes in the substory Embracing My True Self.

Personality[]

Even in a town this scummy, there are people who won't bow to the yakuza... People working hard to make it by themselves! Kazuki-san can say he built himself up to where he is now with his own hands. And I won't let you yakuza tear him down!

— Yuya

Yuya is protective when it comes to his club's business, but otherwise a quick-tempered man with a strong hatred to the yakuza. He is initially hostile to Kiryu, but later becomes a good friend to him.

Background[]

Yuya was once the leader of a biker gang named Black Thunder.

Involvement[]

Yakuza/Yakuza Kiwami: 2005[]

Seeing a yakuza walking towards Stardust, Yuya confronts and attacks him. After the fight, Yuya finds out the "yakuza" was Kazuki's guest, Kazuma Kiryu, and he apologizes once inside Stardust. Soon after, members of the Shimano Family enter Stardust, and Yuya defends the club alongside Kazuki and Kiryu.

A few days later, Yuya greets Kiryu as he enters the club, and points him to Shota after being asked. After seeing Makoto Date walk away with Shota's gang, Yuya expresses his concern, stating he's polite and a good earner, but hangs out with a rough crowd.

The next day, Yuya is held captive by a mysterious organization inside Stardust after being held gunpoint, and is rescued by Kiryu later.

Yuya and Kazuki are asked by Date if they are able to help out Kiryu in anyway. The two bring up the situation with the other hosts, and are able to chip in ¥300,000 for Kiryu. That night, Yuya hears an explosion, followed by money raining from the Millennium Tower.

Yakuza 2/Yakuza Kiwami 2: 2006[]

On December 14th, Yuya fights off foreigners causing trouble in front of Stardust. When Kazuki is shot and spends his time at Emoto Clinic, Yuya becomes interim manager.

When the Go-Ryu Clan assault Kamurocho, Yuya attempts to fight back but it is ultimately Kiryu who drives them out.

Yakuza 3: 2007-2009[]

After the Omi Alliance assault is thwarted, Yuya cleans the mess in front of Stardust when Kiryu and Haruka come and say goodbye to him.

After the defeat of Black Monday, he and Kazuki say their farewells to Kiryu. Shortly after, they catch and restrain Goh Hamazaki, who stabbed Kiryu.

Yakuza 4: 2010[]

Yuya has become the manager of Stardust, with Kazuki standing behind Yuya's decisions. He cherishes his friendship with Kiryu and is glad to have him back once again in Kamurocho.

Kurohyou: Ryu Ga Gotoku Shinsho: 2010[]

A teenager named Tatsuya Ukyo stopped two men from invading Stardust and starting a huge scene. As thanks, Yuya invites him in and even offers the boy a job as a host in Stardust (which he refuses), and compensates him with 10,000 yen. He notices Tatsuya's injuries and recommends him to visit Emoto Clinic, as someone as reckless as him could get seriously hurt in a fight.

Yakuza 5: 2012[]

Having lost his passion as a host, Yuya leaves Kamurocho for soul-searching. One day, Yuya happens to meet Kiryu talking to his co-worker in Nagasugai, and approaches him. Hearing Kiryu constantly claiming to be someone else, Yuya figures something is up, and walks away. After Kiryu finishes his conversation, Yuya walks back up to him, and the two head to a restaurant. Yuya learns of Kiryu's alternate identity, and he explains his own business in the town.

Afterwards, Yuya starts job-searching around town. He manages to get one as a live-in waiter at La Seine under the alias "Kazuki," and e-mails Kiryu about it. As an employee, Yuya finds out the owner has been forced into protection money by the yakuza, but feels he shouldn't step in. Meeting with Kiryu later, Yuya explains the situation, but is punched and reprimanded. Reflecting on how he used to protect Stardust, Yuya decides to take action, and fights off the yakuza alongside Kiryu. With his passion restored, Yuya resigns from La Seine, and returns to Kamurocho.

Yakuza 6: 2016[]

With Stardust purchased by the Jingweon Mafia, Yuya resigns and starts his life as a normal business man. One day, Yuya happens to reunite with Kiryu in front of Stardust. Heading to Kanrai, Yuya informs Kiryu of the situation with the Jingweon Mafia. Yuya also explains the situation with Kazuki, stating he's attempting to raise funds to re-purchase Stardust, also stating he would go back to being "Kazuki-san's right-hand man" if the purchase happens. Soon after, Yuya bids farewell to Kiryu.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth: 2023[]

With Kazuki having regained ownership of Stardust, Yuya reprises his role as manager.

Fighting Style[]

Across his appearances, Yuya fights with a focus on wrestling.

Yakuza[]

Yuya uses a unique fighting style consisting of a 3-hit combo involving a chop, a reverse horizontal chop, and a double chop, a heavy running punch, and a running body press.

Yakuza 3[]

Yuya uses a unique fighting style slightly different from his one used in Yakuza. He still has his running punch and running body press, but his 3-hit combo is changed to multiple punches instead of chops, and he has a new 2-kick combo.

Yakuza Kiwami[]

Yuya uses Ricky Mask's moveset. He tends to do the 2-kick combo very often, and can use a Brawler style Heat Action.

Yakuza Kiwami 2[]

As an AI partner, Yuya uses Rikiya's moveset. He has a tag team Heat Action with Kiryu.

Notes[]

  1. The given height of 185 cm (6′ 1″) is based on the character model's scaling factor within Yakuza Kiwami 2's data.[3] For Dragon Engine games, this method is believed to be very accurate (±2 cm). However, this is intended as an estimate, not a substitute for an official statistic.
